An 18-year-old Form Four student identified as Joy Wangui has been found dead at her family home in the Kiambaa area of Molo, Nakuru County, in a shocking incident that has prompted a police investigation and a search for her boyfriend, who has been identified as the main suspect. Police reports indicate that Wangui was discovered dead inside the family house, with investigators recovering several weapons at the scene. Her boyfriend, Walter Kipkoech, is reported to have fled after the incident and remained at large as investigations continued on Monday, October 5, 2026.

The incident has left residents of Molo shocked, particularly because of the age of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding her death. Wangui was reportedly a Form Four student at Molo Secondary School. According to information contained in the police report, her brother had left her at home while going to a nearby shop. When he returned, he found her dead inside the house and alerted the authorities.

Police officers from Molo Police Station, together with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), responded to the scene after the incident was reported. Investigators processed the house as a crime scene as they sought to establish what happened and identify the person responsible for the killing.

According to police, Wangui's body was found inside the kitchen. Her head was reportedly discovered separately inside the house. Investigators also recovered an axe, a panga or machete and two knives, which were reportedly stained with blood. The items were taken as potential exhibits as detectives worked to reconstruct the events leading to the teenager's death.

The shocking nature of the killing has attracted significant attention, with preliminary investigations pointing to Wangui's boyfriend as the prime suspect. Police have not, however, concluded the investigation or established the full circumstances and motive behind the killing.

Reports indicate that the suspect, identified as Walter Kipkoech, allegedly fled from the scene after the incident. Police have since launched efforts to trace and apprehend him. As of the latest reports, no arrest had been confirmed, and detectives were continuing with their search.

Investigators are expected to examine the relationship between Wangui and the suspect as part of efforts to establish what may have led to the attack. One report said a message had been written on a wall at the scene, which investigators are treating as part of the evidence. Another report attributed the message to the suspected boyfriend and indicated that it referred to allegations of cheating. However, the circumstances and authenticity of the message remain matters for investigators to establish.

The case has once again raised concerns about violence within intimate relationships, particularly involving young people. While the exact motive has not been officially established, detectives are expected to examine all available evidence before determining what happened.

Police investigations are likely to include forensic examination of the weapons recovered from the scene, analysis of other evidence inside the house and efforts to trace the suspect's movements after the alleged killing. Detectives may also seek statements from family members, neighbours and other people who may have interacted with Wangui or the suspect before the incident.

The recovery of multiple weapons at the scene is also expected to form an important part of the investigation. Crime-scene officers documented the location and collected evidence that could help establish how the killing occurred. Such evidence may also assist detectives in determining whether other people were involved or whether the incident was carried out by one person.

Wangui's body was moved to Molo Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it was to be preserved pending a postmortem examination. The postmortem is expected to provide additional information regarding the injuries she suffered and could assist investigators in establishing the cause and manner of death.

The death has also brought grief to Wangui's family and the wider community, who are now waiting for answers regarding what happened to the teenager. Her death came at a time when she was still pursuing her secondary education, with her school life cut short under tragic circumstances.

Police have urged the public to assist investigators with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect. The ongoing manhunt is expected to continue as detectives work to establish his whereabouts and bring him before the law.

It is important to note that although police have identified Wangui's boyfriend as the main suspect based on preliminary investigations, he remains a suspect unless and until a court determines his guilt. The ongoing investigation is intended to establish the facts and gather sufficient evidence for any possible prosecution.

The Molo incident adds to continuing concerns in Kenya over killings involving people in intimate relationships. Such cases often require detailed investigations because detectives must establish the events leading up to the death, the relationship between the victim and suspect, possible motives and whether anyone else may have been involved.

For now, the main focus of investigators remains finding the suspect and determining exactly what happened inside the Kiambaa home. DCI officers in Molo are continuing with investigations, while the search for the suspect remains ongoing.

The family and residents of Molo are therefore awaiting further updates from police as the investigation progresses. Authorities are expected to provide additional information once the suspect is located, forensic examinations are completed and detectives have established a clearer account of the events surrounding Joy Wangui's death.

The tragic death of the 18-year-old student has left a community mourning and has placed renewed attention on the need to address violence in relationships, especially where disputes escalate into serious harm. The circumstances surrounding Wangui's death will now be determined through the ongoing police investigation and the evidence gathered by detectives.
