President Ruto tour to Bomet commenced today on the 9 th of September 2026 as he landed at Itembe Airstrip.

Several leaders were there to welcome him including Bomet Governor professor Hillary Barchok,Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir, Agriculture Principal Secretary Charles Rono,Kericho senator Aron Cheruyoit, majority leader,Former governor Isaac Ruto,Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei,Bomet Women representative Linet Chepkorir,,Konoin Member of parliament Brighton Yegon,Bomet East Member of parliament Richard Yegon,Bomet Central member of parliament Richard Kilel and several leaders from South rift.

 *Itembe Airstrip* 

He inspected several projects starting from Kapkwen,where he landed at Itembe Airstrip that has been in progress in the construction as in now being upgraded.

 *Kapkwen Modern Market*

He launched the construction of the new Kapkwen Modern Market.

He said that it is one of the 11 markets to be built in Bomet.He also launched the Kapkwen Last Mile connectivity.

 *Kapkwen -Olbutyo-Siongiroi road* 

 He launched the road ,saying that the construction of the road would help the people of Bomet.He said that he would add 91 kilometre road ,where he asked the Constructor to fasten the construction of the road. Additionally,he said that 2.8 billion shillings has been set apart to expand Last Mile Electricity Connectivity and connect 25 000 homes across Bomet County.

 *Affordable housing*

He handed over the keys to the residents.The was so much happiness there, residents were singing and praising the President for the good work he did.He was hosted by one resident for a cup of tea ,the family of Daniel Korir and Margret Cherono at their two bedroom house in the estate.

 *County Assembly of Bomet* 

He commissioned the County Assembly of Bomet lead by Catholic priest Alfred Koech Rotich and the speaker of the county Assembly Cosmas Korir.The 470 million shillings investment equipped with advanced digital tools will cut wastage,expand public scrutiny,boost transparency and stimulate meaningful development in Bomet County.

 *President Ruto in Bomet town* 

He made a speech citing the building of student hostels.

Several leaders made speeches.

It was an emotional moment when a young girl called Dora Chepchumba from Bomet Central recited a kalenjin poem to him.

Addressed residents of Bomet town and updated them on the measures being taken to modernise the town.

Among them is the construction of the 1 billion shillings stadium and roads that have been tarmacked in the town.

Also,a 1.7 billion water project which will supply water to Bomet and it's environs.

Additionally, 600 million shillings to extend the water project to Bomet town and build a sewerage system.

He pledged 2 million Kenya shillings to cater for a sick person who was brought to meet him in Bomet town.

 *Dr Joyce Laboso Mother and Child Hospital* 

He commissioned the newly built Dr Joyce Laboso Mother and Child Hospital.It has been fully equipped and with the latest technology.The Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Duale was present together with the leaders from Bomet.

He praised the leaders from Bomet together in partnership with World Bank for delivering the project.

He said 82 % of Bomet residents have registered for the Social Health Authority (SHA)

 *Kyogong-Kiplokyi Road* 

He launched the Kyogong-Kiplokyi Road at Tegat.He addressed the residents ,, urging them to register as voters and have their identity card.He said 20 million Kenya shillings has been set to support three schools in Tegat.

The President’s programme also includes engagements around healthcare and affordable housing, with the Bomet Mother and Child Hospital among the key facilities on his itinerary. He is also expected to inspect road projects and affordable housing developments in Bomet town. 

Another important focus is the development of modern markets and trading facilities. Ruto has already laid the foundation stone for the Kapkwen Modern Market, part of the government’s Economic Stimulus Programme. The market is intended to provide better facilities for traders and support local economic activity. 

The visit has attracted considerable attention from Bomet leaders and residents, who have turned up to welcome the President and follow the progress of projects being undertaken in the county. The tour provides an opportunity for residents to see the progress of government projects while also presenting their expectations and concerns to the national government.

Ruto has also highlighted major road and electricity investments in Bomet. He announced that Sh19 billion has been set aside for road projects covering more than 380 kilometres, while the government targets connecting an additional 25,000 households in the county to electricity before April 2027.

Overall, President Ruto’s Bomet visit is being presented as a major development-focused engagement, with roads, healthcare, air transport, affordable housing, markets and electricity taking centre stage. For residents, the key issue will be whether the projects and commitments translate into completed infrastructure, improved services, employment opportunities and stronger economic activity across the county.
