The total annual expense for the education of these students would amount to Sh25.8 billion according to Ogamba instead of the reported Sh100 billion.

The estimated Sh100 billion amount represents the entire projected expense throughout a four-year period according to his statement.

The admission criteria established by the existing standards will allow entry to the 246,391 students who received a C+ grade or higher in their 2024 KCSE tests according to Ogamba.

According to the official, university admission does not have cut-off points yet students who earn a minimum mean grade C+ qualify for admission to universities.

According to his statement the university placement portal through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) will launch for September 2025 admissions in March.

Ogamba announced the KUCCPS portal began its operation on January 24 for the Fall 2025 admissions of Kenya Medical Training College students alongside applicants to Teacher Training Colleges and Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions.

The KCSE 2024 exam participation reached 962,512 individuals whereas the previous year saw 899,453 candidates taking the test. Males accounted for 480,310 candidates but females exceeded them with 482,202 participants.
