A man from Kayole is set to be sentenced after failing to appear in court to take a plea. Marko Munialo Musyoki is facing charges of failing to attend court and administering a stupefying drug with the intent to commit a felony.

Musyoki was required to respond to allegations that he drugged a woman, identified as M.N.O., on November 28, 2024, in Nairobi. According to the charge sheet, he administered an intoxicating substance to the businesswoman with the intention of stealing from her.

The two reportedly met online and later decided to meet in person on July 18 at a drinking joint. After consuming alcohol together, the complainant blacked out and was left unconscious at the table. Since Musyoki was aware of her residence, he took her home and left. The next day, he called to check if she remembered anything, to which she replied that she only recalled paying the bill.

Four months later, Musyoki invited her for another drink, and she accepted. Similar to their first encounter, she lost consciousness at the table, and the accused once again took her home. The following day, she fell ill and, upon seeking medical attention, discovered that she had been drugged.

It was then that she realized her ATM card was missing. Upon reporting the incident to the police, she was advised to check her account balance, only to discover that Sh1,268,894 had been withdrawn. Investigators retrieved bank statements and reviewed CCTV footage from Kilimani and Langata, which confirmed that the accused had made the withdrawals.

In a surprising turn of events, Musyoki later returned the complainant’s ATM card before his arrest.

Through his lawyer, he informed the court that he failed to attend proceedings due to illness. The court has scheduled the case for mention on February 24, when a pre-sentence report will be presented.
