Mandera Assistant Chief Arrested Over Links to Terror Suspects
Mandera Assistant Chief Yussuf Maalim Issak has been arrested for allegedly aiding terrorism by helping illegal aliens obtain Kenyan ID cards. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations linked him to two terror suspects recently apprehended for plotting to abduct foreign workers at a construction site in Mandera. The suspects, who planned to smuggle the victims to Somalia, are set to face terrorism-related charges.
Detectives in Mandera have arrested Bula Power Sub-Location Assistant Chief Yussuf Maalim Issak for allegedly facilitating terrorism by enabling illegal aliens to obtain Kenyan identity cards.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that the assistant chief is linked to two terror suspects recently arrested for planning to abduct foreign workers at a sewer line construction site in Mandera town. The suspects, identified as Isaac Mohammed Abdi and Noor Yakub Ali, were apprehended on Tuesday.
According to the DCI, the assistant chief reportedly assisted the suspects in obtaining an acknowledgment registration slip, commonly referred to as an ID waiting card. The suspects intended to abduct the foreign workers and transport them to Somalia.
Investigations revealed that Isaac Abdi Mohamed, also known as Kharan Abdi Hassan, had recently entered Kenya from El-Adde, Somalia. He allegedly planned to pay Ksh.100,000 to a local accomplice to aid the abduction. The victims would then be moved to El-Adde for a fee of Ksh.300,000.
The second suspect, Yakub Ali, was arrested in the Metameta area of Mandera. Both suspects are facing terrorism-related charges and are due to appear in court.
The assistant chief has been detained as investigations into his involvement continue.
