Natembeya Claps Back at Cherargei Over Tribalism Claims in Fiery Exchange
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has dismissed tribalism claims by Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei as baseless. He defended his leadership as inclusive and questioned Cherargei’s own diversity record. Local leaders backed Natembeya, telling Cherargei to stay out of county affairs.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has fired back at Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, dismissing allegations of tribal favoritism and defending his inclusive leadership style. Responding via social media on Tuesday, April 15, Natembeya labeled the accusations as baseless and challenged Cherargei to reflect on his own record of diversity. “My drivers are Kalenjins, my security head is a Sabaot, and my team includes people from every community in Trans Nzoia,” he stated.
The governor didnt hold back, questioning Cherargei’s own hiring practices. “Can you tell me how many Bukusu individuals you’ve employed?” he posed. Natembeya also stood firm against political threats, insisting that he would continue to speak out on matters affecting the people. “I will not be silenced. I’ll continue speaking the truth, no matter the consequences,” he asserted.
The war of words comes after Cherargei called for Natembeya’s impeachment on Monday, accusing the county boss of promoting tribal division, poor development, and being involved in corruption. Citing violations of Kenya’s Constitution, the senator claimed the governor’s actions warrant immediate removal from office. “He has breached Articles 10, 27, 73, 74, 75 and 174,” Cherargei argued.
However, several leaders from Trans Nzoia have rallied behind Natembeya, blasting Cherargei for interfering in local affairs despite not being a resident. “You are not a voter here, so stay out of our business,” said MCA Eric Mwangale. Natembeya, known for his bold stance, has recently been vocal on national issues, vowing to fight for Luhya unity and uplift the region from poverty.
