In a notice dated February 3, 2025, NCIC urged Gachagua to refrain from making baseless statements, emphasizing that his remarks could incite ethnic divisions and fuel animosity among communities.

NCIC Condemns Incitement

Gachagua warned Ruto to stay away from Meru if Chief Justice Martha Koome was removed from office, alleging that the president’s actions were targeting her due to her ethnicity. However, NCIC dismissed his claims as misleading, stating that they promote ethnic tension and could disrupt national unity.

The commission further stressed that barring the president from any region is unconstitutional, as he has the right to access all parts of the country in his official capacity.

Call for Caution

NCIC urged Gachagua to exercise restraint, warning that his reckless statements could have serious consequences. While acknowledging the right to free speech, the commission reminded him that such freedom does not extend to hate speech, incitement to violence, or propaganda that could provoke conflict.

“Although the Constitution guarantees freedom of speech, you are advised against making statements that amount to incitement, hate speech, or propaganda for war,” the statement read.

Gachagua’s Controversial Remarks

Speaking during a church service at AIPCA Antubetwe Kiongo Church in Igembe North, Meru County, on February 23, 2025, Gachagua alleged that Ruto was orchestrating Koome’s removal, just as he had targeted him and former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi.

He further accused the president of sidelining Mt. Kenya leaders, claiming Ruto was determined to push them out of government.

“William Ruto, God will not allow you to make the people of Mt. Kenya suffer under your regime,” he declared.

Ongoing Feud Between Ruto and Gachagua

The rift between Ruto and Gachagua has continued to widen since Gachagua’s impeachment. The former deputy president has been openly criticizing the government, branding it ineffective and dysfunctional.

On the other hand, Ruto has blamed Gachagua for hindering the successful implementation of his administration’s national agenda.
