Rigathi Gachagua Claims Continued Political Relevance Despite Impeachment
Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua asserts his sustained political influence, surprising President William Ruto, despite being impeached from office
Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has boldly claimed that President William Ruto is astonished by his continued political relevance, despite his impeachment from office. According to Gachagua, Ruto had anticipated that his influence would quickly wane within weeks. He suggested that the president might be experiencing the "shock of his life" upon realizing that his popularity endures, contrary to Rutos expectations.
Gachagua emphasized his loyal support base, which he credits for his sustained political significance. He argued that his removal from office did not diminish his influence, as his loyal followers continued to stand by him. "I was removed from office, but my supporters went with me. I am still a political heavyweight in this country, and that is why various leaders flock to my Wamunyoro residence," he said.
The former deputy president criticized Ruto for betraying the Mt. Kenya region by failing to fulfill the promises made during his presidential campaign. He cited a struggling economy, a flawed university funding model, failed healthcare systems, as well as forced evictions, demolitions, and the proliferation of illicit brews as key issues that have alienated Ruto from the Mt. Kenya electorate.
Amid growing discontent with Rutos administration in the Mt. Kenya region, Gachagua revealed that his consultations with community members have led to a resolve to be part of the next government. He hinted at consolidating the Mt. Kenya voting bloc, aiming for at least eight million votes.
