Ruto and Raila Unite After AUC Loss
President Ruto has pledged to work with Raila Odinga despite his AUC loss, emphasizing unity for national development. He praised Odinga’s efforts in the race and thanked African leaders for their support. Odinga, in turn, hinted at a future political move, urging Kenyans to stay tuned.
President William Ruto has declared his willingness to collaborate with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in advancing Kenya’s development agenda. While welcoming Odinga back after his unsuccessful bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship, Ruto emphasized the importance of a broad-based government that includes both the ruling party and the opposition.
Speaking at State House in Mombasa, Ruto stressed the need for unity to accelerate national transformation. He underscored that all leaders must work together to achieve Kenya’s vision, calling for collective efforts to drive development and nation-building.
Ruto also praised Odinga’s determination in the AUC race, stating that Kenya had never fielded a more qualified candidate. He expressed gratitude to African leaders who backed Odinga, reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to the continent’s Agenda 2063 and intra-Africa trade.
Odinga, in response, said he remains ready to contribute whenever called upon and hinted at a future political move. He promised to consult with his allies before making an announcement, urging Kenyans to "watch this space." His AUC bid ended after a rigorous seven-round voting process in Addis Ababa on February 15.
